Project Objective Significant use of RNRSS and other natural resources research outputs for the benefits (direct/ in-direct) of poor men and women in diverse contexts.
Expected Outputs
  1. Capability of CBSP groups for the production and marketing of legume and short duration rice varieties enhanced.
  2. Promising RNRRS and non-RNRRS outcomes out-scaled to improve the food security of the rural poor.
  3. Market networks for input supply and product marketing strengthened.
  4. Social and policy issues analyzed and advocated.
Major Activities
  1. Strengthening CBSPs on production and marketing of rice and legume varieties.
  2. Disseminate RRC technologies through IRD, PVS and demonstrations
  3. Advanced training to the members of CBSP groups.
  4. Disseminate RRC technologies through local and national news media.
  5. Registration/ release of legume and rice varieties through national authority.
  6. Accreditation and registration of CBSP groups and other resource centres.
  7. Accreditation and registration of local resource persons (LRPs) to Village Development Committee (VDC), District Development Committee (DDC), and Council for Technical Education and Vocational training (CTEVT).

  3. More than 20,000 farmers living beside the project villages were aware of crop varieties, approaches, technologies and policies being scaled out by RRC including zero tillage in garlic, nutrient loading in lentil, lathyrus, etc.
  4. Five LRPs accredited to Community Technician (JTA level 2) from CTEVT.
  5. Two chickpea varieties namely Avrodhi and Tara were jointly released by FORWARD and NARC from National Seed Board combining the data those generated by the project with those by NARC stations.
  6. Chickpea production technology (5,000 copies) in Nepali and mungbean production technology (500 copies) in Maithili published.
Lessons Learnt
  1. Zero-tillage practice in garlic could be a great avenue for the sustainable intensification of rice-fallows under high moisture regime
  2. Domain concept is useful to prioritize which variety to promote which locations. Principally, rice domains can be divided as rainfed upland, medium land and low land.
  3. Promoting mungbean in those areas where water table is high or where irrigation facility is assured would enhance greater impact in the community.
