Project Objective
  1. Introduce water harvesting pond as means/source of irrigation during the long spell drought.
  2. Improve and diversify on-farm livelihood options of resource poor families.
  3. Enhance household food security and income through diversified, market oriented vegetable production.
Expected Outputs
  1. Farmers will have access to year round irrigation facility.
  2. Users group will be formed and actively participate in planning, construction and pond management activities.
  3. Ponds with capacity of 18,000 litres, 72,000 liters and 180,000 liters constructed.
  4. More than 100 ha of upland area brought under commercial vegetable cultivation through year round irrigation facility.

  3. Children are admitted to English medium school/ college

  5. Thatch roof replaced by metal sheet roof
  6. More rate of saving (up to NRs 2,000 per production season)
Lessons Learnt 18,000 liter capacity of rain water harvesting pond is best for maximum of two commercial farming households
Recommendations Extra source of water should be allocated in the pond so as to make available more water even in dry season for its durability and commercial vegetable production
