Project Objective
  1. Enhance food security and income through diversified on-farm & off-farm resources management options
  2. Enhance skills and capacity for economic security, development and institutionalization of grass root organizations.
  3. Develop and strengthen local resource centres, network linkage with service providers and institutional strengthening of producer groups.
Expected Outputs
  1. Increased food sufficiency by 3 months of 60% participant households and their annual income increased at least by NRs 36,000.
  2. 75% of project beneficiaries improve their farming and resource management practices, while minimizing wasteful and hazardous practices.
  3. Technical and managerial capabilities of farmers and organizations enhanced.
  4. Institutional bases strengthened for sustainability of development interventions.
  5. 75% of the project beneficiaries' access to different resource centres like irrigation sources, agro-vets, multipurpose nurseries, collection centres.

Major Achievements
  1. 600 families have adopted leasehold vegetable farming in their own initiatives.
  2. More than 10,000 people adopted off-season vegetables, mushroom, commercial potato using true-potato seed culture, riverbed vegetable, ans small livestock.
  3. Cropping intensity in > 100 ha of land (1,507 HHs) increased by 300% through the promotion of treadle-pump and shallow tube well irrigation systems.
  4. Some local landraces of vegetables such as brinjal (Mahadeva Local), chilli (Bhela), bitter gourd (Kisan Ganjiya), Cucumber (Dhimal Kakro), and Poro Sag have been promoted.
  5. Commercial vegetable farming in the off-season adopted in cucurbits and tomatoes in the riverbeds with 296 participants earned NRs 3,708,000.
  6. Farm forestry and community fish farming has been effective to utilize the idle land to benefit the 284 resource poor in the area.
  7. Nearly 4,000 households are organized into 300 groups and all groups have their group funds for regular saving and credit schemes. Nearly 65% of the group members have already linked with local micro-financial institutions
  8. A total of 20 youths and 63 progressive farmers were developed as local community technicians. 16 of them have already been qualified for the level of Junior Technical Assistant (Level II) through the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) skill test.
  9. Agro-vet, multipurpose nurseries, vegetable collection centre have been the effective resource centre for technology dissemination and input supply in the program area.
Lesson learnt and Recommendations    
  1. Community land should be given first priority for leasing of land for leasehold vegetable production schemes
  2. Social mobilization should be highly emphasized. Participatory action plan preparation with beneficiaries should be emphasized.
  3. Transparency will be maintained through social audit in beneficiaries' level.
  4. Intensive efforts should be made to use the dynamics of producer groups of identical objectives to link them in a common platform with their own identity.
